In the summer of 1999 I went out to the Kyrgyz Republic to meet as many yurt makers as I could find. With the decline of the nomadic way of life and the steady movement of people into the towns and cities, the yurt makers weren't easy to find. The few I did meet were making beautiful yurts mainly for foreign markets.
